The Dragon Blood Collection Part 1 Balanced on the Blade’s Edge – by Lindsey Buroker
Book one is an interesting tale of events. Introductions are short when Colonel Ridge Zirkander appears on the scene he is a forty-year-old pilot, but it’s not in a world we would recognise as earth. It’s similar but quirky. When Sardelle Tershan wakes from a deep sleep of 300 years, even more questions arise about the world we are walking into. Along with the battle of trying to keep magic out of the equation but wanting to tell Zirkander what she knows is a very difficult thing to balance.
It’s very interesting because we are learning bits and pieces about the world through Sardelle. It is slightly confusing with the stark difference of our world and theirs, but after the first couple of chapters, it felt like a second home to me. I realised I didn’t need to know why it was the way it was, I just accepted that's how it was.

Some of the plot lines did become slightly predictable, but they were still witty and fun to follow. I loved the character of Sardelle’s sword Jaxi. There is an ever-present sarcasm and humour that filters through even in the darkest of times.
It’s a good read and I devoured all three of them in just a few weeks (the other two I will get on to later). I don’t normally find myself attracted to books with magic involved, but since then I have realised they have a wealth of amusement and emotion. I would recommend these books to anyone who is wanting to branch out of their usual genre, or if you love magic, then these are the books for you. It’s not too heavy, its fast-paced with lots of action and things exploding.
Part two and three will be realised over the next few days.
