Angel – Jon Grahame

The start of this book sets the atmosphere for the rest of it. It’s painful and emotional and it’s more than enough to bring me to tears.

Angel focuses mostly on Sandra, the eighteen-year-old soldier who, with Reapers help has been trained to kill. She works hard to follow him and do the right thing, but there is always a grey area with those decisions. But with the pain they were both dealt at the end of the first book it really wrenched at your heart to think this poor girl, she is just a teenager, she should be working for money to go out on a weekend, but instead she is armed to the teeth with guns, knives, and extra ammo.

With word of another group terrorising survivors, Reaper and Sandra make it their mission to free the world of this and free the people the group are exploiting. I am really trying to do a good book review without giving too much away.

Just like book one, I was gripped from the very first page and I didn’t want to put it down. I read whenever I could because at the end of every scene there were answers I needed before I could carry on with my day. I wanted to know Reaper and Sandra were okay, I wanted to know they had done their job and rid the new world of the bad guys.

The writing is top notch and I can’t fault it. The action has a huge emotional impact every step of the way. It’s a strange style to read, there is so much description and so much narration I didn’t know how I would like it, but with the sparse dialogue, I think it really works to drive the plot along. I have found after reading these I get frustrated with dialogue sometimes because the characters say something and then they do it. Grahame doesn't fall into this issue.

I have loved the whole series and I would love to hear your views if you have read it! I have so many things I really want to say, I can’t because I will probably get lynched for leaking spoilers. All I can say is you need to read it, anyone who loves post-apocalyptic but is bored of the zombies. This is a creature free end of the world book that follows characters who are trying to survive in a world they aren’t used to.
