Bloodbound – Erin Lindsey
Alix Black is a fierce woman who just wants to be the best person she can be and protect as many as she can. Which includes King Eric when she saves his life in battle. After the fight is over there is a discovery of a plot against Erik, which is spearheaded by his brother.
I love the main character. If you have read my other two reviews, you will probably begin to see a trend. Main characters are important, they lead the story and if the main character is written badly it can ruin the book. Alix is a character I always go back to, I always think about when I am writing my own books. She is well rounded with emphasis on both bad and good points of her personality. There were times I hated her for the decisions she made, but I understood why they were made, it wasn’t that I disagreed with them, I just wished good things would happen.
After reading the title, I did expect it to be a work of vampires, but when I realised it's actually a reference to how the weapons were created I was enthralled and ecstatic. It’s another good Young Adult book that isn’t focused on dark supernatural creatures, which is reassuring to the world. I think most people have sort of given up on the vampires after Twilight, True Blood and Vampire Diaries.
I can’t think of anything I disliked about the book. The characters were great, all of them, they had a specific role to play and they were written perfectly for it. I was even pleased with the ending after everything was tied together and the right decisions were made, which pleased me even more.
I really think this book would be a great gift for anyone who loves any sort of warfare, romance and fantasy, it was a truly great first book to the series. I haven’t read the second one yet, which again seems like a common trend, but I promise you I have read more than one book of other series. It’s just sometimes you love the main characters so much you aren’t ready to move on in their story.
Please get in touch if you have any thoughts you'd like to share, it would be great to hear your views!
The next book on the list is The Last Sacrifice by James A Moore
