In a Writing Slump?

I always go back to Disney when this happens. It allows me to reconnect with my childhood memories, which is where my creativity lies, or at least where it all started. I still have a fondness for Disney even now, and I don’t think that will ever change. I grew up with Lion King and Toy Story, and the link, it allowed my mind to wander and wonder what it was like to be in such a story.
When you get into a slump, it’s might be because there is a lot of pressure on your creative side of your mind. Or perhaps it connected to your working life or life at home. Using something that comforting to you, it allows your mind to relax and break down the walls that might have been put up.
I can’t write when I’m worried about something. I can only go on personal experience here, but when I worry it filters through into my writing, my characters start to second guess their movements, which sometimes helps give them a few chapters of doubt before breaking through. But that is slightly different. When I know I am worried or mithering about something beyond my control I can’t do anything, I feel lost and I can’t concentrate. Which is when Disney comes into it, Disney is so easy to watch, it’s just there, colours and music and it just has …. A sort of bounce. A rhythm you can move to.
Obviously, this isn't helpful for people who dislike Disney, but another suggestion is to just go somewhere you know makes you feel comforted, whether it’s back home to your parents for the day. Or a favourite place. That for me is in the Yorkshire Dales.
Allowing your mind to just let go of whatever is bothering you to just enjoy the day. Forget about your writing for that day and go back to you some other time. Don’t be afraid to step back for a little while if you feel like nothing you put on the page is good enough.
