Robert Hunter Series

Chris Carter, if you are unfamiliar with his work, is a crime thriller writer. And boy does he thrill, I was enthralled within a few pages and I just couldn't put it down. I have to admit, I'm not a few reader, so when I saw I read it fast, it still took me about a week to get through. I don't want to say 'a pager turner' because it's an old well used saying, but it really was. The plot turned and twisted beyond what I could even describe. I didn't know what to expect, I hate crime series I can predict, it takes all the fun out of the ending when you know. There are so many characters involved amongst the story and the plot it becomes a true mystery. But the one thing I loved the most about these books was that they weren't just about the crime. Carter put a lot of work into character development with the main character Robert Hunter.

I read the first four within quick succession of each other and you can really follow how the events affect the main character. But what I didn't know until a month of so later what Carter had a short story from the very beginning, when Hunter first started. After reading the first four novels, then going back to the start it really showed just how much Robert Hunter had changed, how different the character had become.

I felt involved with the characters and the plot line, it is something I have missed amongst other books I have read. I want a character I can really get into, to understand how their mind works over a series, it is something that's really hard to do, the writer has to know who they are writing about as if they were a real person. They have to know every answer, every comment that might come from their mouth and the writer has to understand how they would react to situations. These are all the things Carter does for Hunter, I haven't read the most recent ones that have come out, but I found I fell in love with Hunter and I felt every twang or twinge of pain he felt through the books. Every injury he picked up, every heartbreaking moment, I was right there, stood with him, watching and waiting for something good to happen for him. Wishing it almost.

I am slightly worried about reading the next one because I truly hope there is a happy ending for him somewhere!

I would recommend these books to anyone who is into Crime, or who is looking for a way to get into the genre. I believe they are incredible books and they deliver on so many levels of the genre.

Thank you.

I hope you enjoy the books if you get them!
