So with the moto GP championship heading to Texas, I think now would be a great time to do an update on the first and second round of the Moto GP. I will be doing reviews and updates on the moto 2 and moto 3 through out, but I shall be focusing mostly on the GP.
Round 1 was at Qatar.
For those of you who didn't watch this round, it was ..... Eventful! With it being in the desert and being over 30 degrees through the day, the races are held on a night with the floodlights on the track. It is the normal way of doing things in Qatar. But for the first time in... Well A LONG TIME! There was RAIN!
That's right people- RAIN IN THE DESERT!
With very few of the rides having much experience in the rain on this track it was going to be interesting. So let’s fast forwards to the qualifying. On no wait a moment, THERE WAS NO QUALIFYING! Shocking to most of the riders who might not have fully understood the ruling for wet conditions on the qualifying. If the qualifying is cancelled than the times for the grid are taken from the last practise session. This caused quite a stir, and the grid was then placed a little bit backwards.
On pole position was the rookie of the year, Maverick Vinales. Second position was taken up by Andrea Iannone and third was held by Championship winner of last year, Marc Marquez. The fans favourite Valentino Rossi was down in tenth position and Lorenzo, on his new Ducati was in a respectable 12th position for his debut race on the new bike. As for the British riders, Redding was in 6th, Crutchlow stood n 9th and Sam Lowes was in 21st.
So with the places decided everyone knew it was going to be an interesting race. It was a tough start to race, after it being delayed twice due to the rain. After the race finally got away there were a few crashes throughout. With Cal Crutchlow being struck down once again, it was frightful end to his fight for the points. But as always, there are hundreds of British supporters out there who are shouting out for Cal to succeed! Zarco was also one of the faller's, along with Bautista, Iannone and petrucci.
It was a serious battle at the front but of course there are only three that can get those top podium points. It was to everyone's delight Vinale on the top spot, after dominating through the free practices. Then Dovizioso coming in to a blinding second position on the Ducati and Rossi taking the third spot. To the Lorenzo fans it was a disappointing 11th position for him on the new Ducati.
ROUND 2
Now, I unfortunately had to miss watching this round due to being at a family get together! I know how rude right! But I will do the best I can to bring you as much information as I can.
At least there was qualifying this time!
So on the front row was Marc Marquez, nothing too different about that. Although, when I looked at the result I was surprised to see Karel Abraham up there on second position, it’s always quite interesting to see a different face on the top spots in the grid. And on the third position s Britain's own, Cal Crutchlow! Vinales was down in 6th position and Rossi was in 7th position. With Lorenzo in a late 16th position. An interesting line up.
It must have been an interesting race, with seven riders crashing out, including Marquez and Lorenzo and the British rider Sam Lowes. There was only sixteen riders who passed the finish line. With Vinales heading the bunch with Rossi chasing him two seconds behind and our British Cal Crutchlow finally getting what he truly deserves in a positive third place!
So the current standings are this-
Vinales on 50 Points
Rossi on 36 points
Dovizioso on 20 Points
I am absolutely looking forwards to the race in Texas! Hopefully I will be able to watch is this weekend so I can actually do a review on it.
Thank you for reading, i hope you are all caught up for the third round this weekend.
