Are you worried about writing the right thing? Or concerned the idea isn't good enough? Don't worry, this is easily fixed. It doesn't matter what you're writing, as long as you feel comfortable with the idea, plot, characters, and genre, it will come across in the writing. Once you start doubting what you are capable of then it becomes harder to use the words to help you, they start working against the grain, your characters won't feel real to you or the readers.

If it starts working against you, take a break, it is okay to start working on something and then stop. it is all part of practicing and learning. if this does happen there are a couple of tips that might help.

Characters-

1- Do some writing about them, get a back story or a few personal details about them. This helps you understand who they are and what makes them tick.

2- Take them out of their current situation. Change the tone of writing into something neutral, it might help you understand their feelings and personality a bit more. Maybe make them jump through a few hoops, see what they are scared of, what they love. It might help get into the mindset of the character.

Plot-

1- go back to the beginning and re-read what has already happened. Backtrack a bit and you might be able to find another route or path you can turn to.

Genre

1- You can change the genre of the piece without changing the plot. Try a different tone, change the atmosphere make it darker if you think it's too light, or make it lighter if it's dark. Change the tone of the characters, it might be your mood that's leading the writing. Take a break, look at something else for ten or fifteen minutes.

As you can see there are so many different things you can do to change how you feel about your characters and idea. Give these a go and see what happens, be adventurous with it, and don't believe you can't do anything.

Thank you and happy writing!
