Go out and explore!

As writers, we have to experience the world. We have to stay up and know how it feels to see a sunrise at 5 am in the spring, summer, autumn and winter. We have to see these things before we can truly understand how they make us feel. I do sort of believe to write about what we know, but sometimes it is okay to write about what we do not know because that is how we learn how we feel about the topics we cover and write about.
As I have said previously there are books out there to help us understand writing techniques and styles. There are also books out there which are there to help us explore our ideas and thoughts. I use Jack Heffron's book, the idea guide. This not only gives prompts it also gives you an explanation of why they help and why it might be important to use these ideas. I have used these prompts on a number of occasions to help me get through what some call writer's block. It has also helped me know what I enjoy writing and what I might have to work on in the future.
These are all important lessons to learn. So to help you get into the spirit of looking for prompts ill jot a couple down here and in the spirit of a writer, I shall also have a go at one of them and upload it at a later date.
1- Go to your favourite spot where you feel most comfortable to write and jot down why you like it. Then expand on this, create a new character and work out a bit about their personality and where they would go if they were stressed or upset.
2- Free write for fifteen minutes when you have spare time for a week, or longer if you find it helps. The point of this is to get some creative time in a day. You might find a good idea comes from this exercise.
3- Go to a busy place, whether it be a shopping center, a cafe or coffee shop, somewhere you feel comfortable. People watch for half an hour or so. Try to come up with back stories for the people you see. If you think of anything you would like to use for the future, jot it down in a notebook, or use your phone if you would rather be discreet.
If you wish to share your thoughts or ideas, please email me and will share it on here with what I came up with.
I hope these help and give you a few starter ideas!
Thank you and Happy Writing!
